About this opportunity

This grant program supports owners of protected medieval buildings (constructed before 1537) in maintaining and restoring these historic structures while preserving their source value. The program applies to profane buildings, excluding churches and other religious structures. These buildings represent some of the world's oldest wooden structures, and material authenticity is given particular emphasis. The grant aims to bring buildings up to normal maintenance levels while ensuring that their historical value is preserved. It is a requirement that work is carried out by craftspeople with relevant competence in antiquarian building work. The program also emphasizes the importance of preserving and strengthening intangible cultural heritage in traditional building craftsmanship. Support may be provided for restoration and heavy maintenance, as well as for documentation, knowledge development, and research on medieval buildings. For larger projects, it is possible to apply for grants multiple years in a row, but only for one year at a time.
