This grant program supports private owners of protected cultural heritage sites and cultural environments in Norway. The grant program ensures that cultural monuments and environments retain their value as sources of knowledge and experience, while facilitating sustainable value creation and use. The original intent was to ease the burden on private individuals who maintain and restore protected cultural heritage sites that serve as public goods for society. The program prioritizes private individuals over publicly owned or publicly funded organizations. Grants cover additional costs, wholly or partially, that arise from requirements for heritage-compliant execution of security, restoration, maintenance, and care work. In special cases, grants can also help cover additional costs for measures to repair or prevent damage related to increased climate stress.
