Tilskudd til private barnehager

Oslo kommune provides funding for private kindergartens (barnehager) in Oslo. Private kindergartens wishing to establish or expand kindergarten operations in Oslo municipality and receive municipal funding must apply for municipal financing to be included in the municipality's plans to ensure sufficient kindergarten capacity. This scheme was introduced after the kindergarten sector was given block financing in 2011 and applies to both ordinary kindergartens and family kindergartens. The application process involves first applying for a preliminary commitment of funding from Utdanningsetaten (Education Agency), after which the relevant district makes a decision about the actual funding. In large parts of Oslo, kindergarten coverage is currently satisfactory, and additional capacity is already planned for the coming years. When evaluating applications for funding commitments, the main emphasis is placed on the need for new kindergarten places, and building patterns and operating forms may also be weighted. Existing kindergartens do not need to apply for funding - only those wishing to establish new operations or expand existing ones.
