About This Opportunity

The Tom Austen Brown Postgraduate Research Scholarship provides financial assistance to master's by research or PhD students undertaking research in pre-colonial Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and other non-written society archaeologies. This scholarship is funded by the Tom Austen Brown bequest and supports research as part of two continuing projects: Conserving heritage in stone (examining how conservation science and technology can be guided by Indigenous cultural and ecological knowledges to protect and enhance heritage values of Indigenous tangible and intangible heritage places), or the Blue Mountains Rock Art Project (recording, analysis and interpretation of Blue Mountains Rock Art in partnership with Aboriginal communities). The scholarship provides a stipend allowance equivalent to the University of Sydney's Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend rate for up to 1.75 years for master's recipients or up to 3.5 years for PhD recipients. Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are particularly welcome, and applicants who meet eligibility criteria will also be automatically considered for the Tom Austen Brown Research Supplementary Scholarship.
