About this opportunity
UChicago Global provides PhD Student Travel Grants in support of short-term travel for research. Applications are accepted for travel to East and South Asia; Sub-Saharan Africa; and Latin America and the Caribbean. Period of travel may vary from a few weeks to several months but must take place in the fiscal year they are awarded. Awardees are issued up to a $3,000 stipend to assist with travel and other related expenses.
Research conducted by applicants must be in support of projects with faculty oversight and/or dissertation work or that strengthen partnership with global institution(s). PhD students should be in the dissertation stage, or expected to enter this stage, no later than the end of Spring Quarter. Applicants traveling to a destination supported by the university's Global Centers in Asia are encouraged to leverage space and support of the Centers.
Following completion of their travel, awardees are required to provide a 250-500 word summary, focusing on how the travel grant furthered their research, the research of the faculty member, and engagement with the partner institution. The program supports doctoral students conducting international research that advances both their dissertation work and faculty-led partnerships with global institutions in specific geographic regions.
