UKAEA Fusion Internship Scheme

UK Atomic Energy Authority Original Source

About This Opportunity

The UKAEA Fusion Internship scheme provides financial support for UK universities or industry to host undergraduate students for a full-time, 8-week paid UK based summer internship in fusion and related disciplines. This can be through a hybrid or in-person working model. Each award provides £4,500 stipend per intern, enabling students to gain hands-on experience and develop skills for future careers in the fusion sector. Host organisations may submit applications for projects involving up to three interns per project, with a maximum of five applications per organisation. The scheme aims to provide students with visibility and awareness of opportunities within the fusion sector to encourage future careers, helping to reduce a national skills gap. Internships must take place between June and August 2026 with the latest start date of 7 July 2026. The funding is paid in arrears to host organisations upon receipt of completion documentation including an intern-produced poster to be presented at a showcase event in September 2026.
