About this opportunity
The University Bursaries programme provides financial support to young people aged 18-24 who are starting their first year of an undergraduate degree at a UK university and are experiencing financial pressures. The bursaries are awarded from multiple funds including the Huish Exhibition Fund, Dyke Exhibition Foundation, The Hobhouse Memorial Fund, and Eagle House Trust, each with specific eligibility criteria. Awards range from £900 to £4,500, with a typical grant of £900. The bursaries can be used to help with the costs of accommodation, books and equipment, travel, and other degree course expenses, but cannot be used for course fees or costs already paid before starting university. Applicants must either be born in Somerset, have lived in Somerset for at least 3 years, have attended a school in Somerset for at least 2 years, or be care leavers from Somerset, Bristol, BANES, North Somerset or South Gloucestershire. Approximately 10 bursaries are awarded each year, though many more applications are received. Applications are assessed by staff and reviewed by a panel, with decisions communicated by the end of July.
