University Clinic Bonn: Research Training Group dedicated to the development and epileptogenesis of dysplasias
About This Opportunity
This Research Training Group (RTG) offers an integrated research and graduate programme for PhD and MD students at the Medical and Mathematical and Natural Sciences Faculties of the University of Bonn and the DZNE funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG)). Focal Cortical Dysplasia (FCD) is one of the most common types of malformations of cortical development. The RTG focuses on closely linked key neurodevelopmental processes including neurovascular communication, microglia-neuron interaction, neurite and synapse plasticity, and monoaminergic signaling. Projects will elucidate the role of these mechanisms in the emergence of clinically challenging FCD variants and their phenotypic manifestations, including seizures and memory impairment. Based on novel pathogenetic insights, the RTG will develop new treatment strategies. The program offers up to 10 fully funded PhD positions to highly motivated and talented students.
