About this opportunity
The UPEI Adult Education Award is granted to an adult learner who is studying part-time toward an undergraduate degree, diploma or certificate. The award recognizes individuals with identifiable community service through volunteerism and who demonstrate financial need. This award was established in 1997 when the Director of the UPEI Department of Extension and Summer Sessions requested that Rural Development Council funds from a maturing deposit be combined with funds from a miscellaneous UPEI account and endowed to create an adult certificate fund. The Rural Development Council functioned as a community development organization in the late 1960s and 1970s, with one of its objectives being the enhancement of adult education in Prince Edward Island. The formal terms were established in 2011 in consultation with the Director of Life-long Learning. The Centre for Life-long Learning at UPEI develops and delivers a broad range of continuing education courses, workshops, summer institutes, language programs, and other services to meet the needs of life-long learners.
