About this opportunity
The UPEI Students WUSC Award is granted to a returning UPEI student in any level of full-time study who is from a developing country (as identified each year by the International Monetary Fund and/or United Nations), resident in Canada, and is in the greatest need. Preference will be given to students who arrived in Canada as a refugee. The award was established in the spirit of peer-to-peer assistance and global engagement. Founded by World University Service of Canada (WUSC) in 1978, the Student Refugee Program (SRP) has sponsored over 1,600 refugee youth from 37 countries of asylum to study in Canada. WUSC has been operating at UPEI since 1984, and since the program's inception, the UPEI community has sponsored 24 students to study at the university as landed immigrants. The SRP's youth-to-youth sponsorship model aims to provide a positive integration process for SRP students and engage students at Canadian institutions on global issues, helping to create welcoming communities for newcomers.
