About This Opportunity

The UQ Lawrence R Tedesco Endowed Scholarship is part of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Scholarship Scheme at the University of Queensland. This scholarship supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who can demonstrate financial hardship and are enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate coursework programs at UQ. Established in 2023 through a gift from Professor Deborah Cao in honour of her husband Lawrence R Tedesco, the scholarship honours Lawrence's life of giving and his passion for improving health outcomes for Australia's Indigenous peoples. Lawrence worked with remote Aboriginal communities in health-related areas in Australia in the 1970s. The scholarship provides at least $6,750 annually to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education at UQ. Students need only submit one application to be considered for all scholarships in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Scholarship Scheme, Aspire Scholarship scheme, and UQ Residential Scholarship scheme. Selection considers demonstrated financial need, personal qualities including leadership potential, academic ability, and other matters relevant to future academic success.
