About This Opportunity

The UW Alumni @ Microsoft Graduate Scholarship is awarded to graduate students at the University of Waterloo on a rotating basis across the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Mathematics, the Cheriton School of Computer Science, and university-wide. The scholarship is designed to support academic excellence and can be matched with government funding programs to maximize its value. The university makes every effort to match this award with government programs such as the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) or Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science & Technology (QEII-GSST), creating a 2:1 match for a total value of $15,000. It can also serve as a top-up for Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Canadian Graduate Scholarship (NSERC CGS) or President's Graduate Scholarship (PGS). When matching is not feasible, scholarships are valued and awarded at $5,000 each. The scholarship is awarded based on scholastic excellence and is open to both Masters and Doctoral students across any program. Both Canadian/permanent residents and international students with study permits are eligible. Recipients are automatically selected by their Faculty or Department, with preference typically given to students who are recipients of an OGS or QEII-GSST. The award is paid over three academic terms beginning in the Fall term.
