About this opportunity
The Violet King Henry Law School Award is awarded to students who are of African descent and who self-identify as Black, African-Canadian, African-American, of Afro-Caribbean or Afro-Latinx heritage with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in any year of a Juris Doctor degree. The award is made possible through annual funds by Miller Thomson LLP in honour of Violet King Henry, the first Black Canadian to obtain a law degree in Alberta at the University of Alberta, the first Black person admitted to the Alberta Bar and the first Black woman to become a lawyer in Canada. Selection is based on academic standing, demonstrated leadership, and/or mentorship and commitment to the advancement of equity, diversity and inclusion. Students are automatically considered based on their completed General Application through the University of Alberta's scholarship portal.
