About this opportunity
The Violet Wickham Memorial Bursary was established by Brian Wickham in 2016 to support undergraduate agriculture students at Massey University who would otherwise be unable to study due to financial hardship. The bursary honors Violet Wickham (1916-1988), who was deeply committed to helping those less fortunate and supporting families in need. Her son Brian graduated from Massey with a Masters of Agricultural Science and went on to complete a PhD in animal breeding and genetics, using his knowledge to contribute to farm animal breeding in New Zealand, Ireland and worldwide.
The bursary provides financial support of approximately $5,000-$7,000 for one year to students in their second or third year of an undergraduate agriculture degree who are facing financial hardship. Multiple awards are available each year. Like his mother, Brian Wickham believes in the value of education and the potential of young people regardless of their family circumstances.
Applicants must be New Zealand-born students enrolled full-time or part-time at Massey University, have completed at least 120 credits toward their agriculture degree, maintain a grade point average of B or better, and demonstrate financial hardship. Recipients are selected based on personal financial circumstances, intended education and career plans, and academic performance to date.
