About this opportunity
The Virgil V. and Pearl E. Gustin Scholarship was established through the wills of Virgil and Pearl Gustin, who though limited in formal education themselves, were passionate about providing educational opportunities to young people with limited financial means. This scholarship supports graduating seniors from Mansfield and Waterville High Schools who plan to pursue higher education. The Gustins invested their lives and money wisely and, having no children of their own, chose to pass the fruits of their labors on to deserving students who demonstrate a desire to improve themselves but have little money. The scholarship is paid over multiple years and requires recipients to provide updates showing educational progress. Virgil and Pearl Gustin hoped that scholarship recipients would pass the same opportunity on to others in need of help, creating a better future for individuals and communities.
