About this opportunity
The Virginia van Santen Award in Textiles and Clothing is awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing entering the third or fourth year in the BSc. in Human Ecology (Clothing, Textiles and Material Culture major). Selection is based on academic standing with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and a demonstrated interest in textile arts. Preference is given to students with indicated financial need. This award was established through endowed funds by Virginia van Santen, PhD, an internationally recognized fabric artist, University of Alberta graduate, and life-long knitter, along with her friends, colleagues and family. The award encourages the pursuit of education in the study of textile arts, honoring Virginia's creative pursuits and her view of knitting as a creative and generous art, an expression of heritage, and a means for embracing friendship and fostering community.
