About this opportunity
The African Studies Centre Leiden (ASCL) offers a Visiting Fellowship Programme that enables selected scholars to conduct research at the institute. Fellows can make use of the ASCL's excellent library facilities, collaborate and network with colleagues, and participate in regular seminars. The fellowship includes practical support such as a return economy class ticket, coverage of living costs through a fixed amount, accommodation in Leiden (single room with shared facilities), and medical/liability insurance. Fellows are expected to hold a PhD degree, have conducted research with a focus on Africa, be actively pursuing an academic or research career, and have published internationally. Preference is given to applicants based in Africa, defined as member states of the African Union, with emphasis on those who have lived in Africa for at least two of the last four years. The assessment process prioritizes the quality and feasibility of the proposed research work, with each Collaborative Research Group (CRG) nominating their preferred candidate, followed by a review by the visiting fellowship committee to ensure program objectives including gender and geographic balance are met.
