About This Opportunity

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific opportunity focuses on volcanic processes in the solar system, with emphasis on Io and Titan, but is also open to studies of volcanism on the Moon, Venus, and other bodies. Research areas include Io volcanism, examining the origin of calderas and lava lakes using Galileo and Juno data, and Titan geologic processes and cryovolcanism using data from the Cassini spacecraft's Titan Radar Mapper instrument. The research involves modeling of eruption processes, data analysis from various instruments including Synthetic Aperture Radar and Visible and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer, and comparisons with volcanic and cryovolcanic features on other planetary bodies.
