About this opportunity
Every year, the Interdisciplinary Centre for European Enlightenment Studies offers two Wiedemann research fellowships for the study of the Enlightenment. Thanks to its extensive historical library and its research groups focusing on a broad spectrum of themes related to the European Enlightenment, the IZEA is the leading centre for the study of the Enlightenment in Germany and regularly welcomes numerous international scholars. The fellowships are generously funded by the Dr. phil. Fritz Wiedemann Foundation and facilitate research stays in Halle for scholars from Germany and abroad.
The program offers two distinct fellowships: one fellowship for established scholars from Germany and abroad for a two-month research stay in Halle with a stipend of €3,800 in total, and one fellowship for PhD students from Germany and abroad for a three-month research stay in Halle with a stipend of €3,600 in total. Shorter stays with an adapted stipend rate are possible, and limited funding is available for travel costs.
Fellows are asked to present their research results in a public lecture at the end of their stay. The fellowships can be scheduled flexibly within one year after admission, allowing for convenient planning around academic commitments. The IZEA provides an ideal environment for Enlightenment research with its specialized library collections and active research community.
