About this opportunity
The WNC College Scholarship is a funding opportunity specifically designed for undocumented or DACA-recipient Latinx students pursuing higher education in Western North Carolina. This scholarship provides financial support ranging from $900 to $1,500 to students who either graduated from a high school in Western North Carolina or are attending a college or university in Western North Carolina.
The scholarship targets students who face unique financial barriers due to their immigration status. Eligible applicants do not qualify for in-state tuition rates or are attending private institutions that do not differentiate between in-state and out-of-state tuition. Additionally, these students do not qualify for federal Pell Grants due to their immigration status.
This program is administered by ALAS (Asociación de Latinos y Amigos de la Sierra), an organization dedicated to supporting the Latinx community in Western North Carolina. The scholarship aims to reduce financial barriers to higher education for undocumented and DACA students who have limited access to traditional financial aid programs.
