About this opportunity

In anticipation of Women's History Month (March), the Women's & Gender Studies department hosts the annual UWM Student Research Paper & Project Contest each February. This competition awards prizes for undergraduate or graduate research papers or projects related to women, gender, sexuality, feminism, or feminist thinking that were completed in the past academic year at UWM's Milwaukee campus. Two prize categories are available: Undergraduate Research Paper or Project and Graduate Research Paper or Project. The undergraduate category requires a minimum of five double-spaced, typed pages demonstrating original thinking and critical engagement with primary and/or secondary sources. Projects may include artwork, video production, curriculum design, musical composition, architectural or engineering design, original literary pieces, or autobiographical essays. The graduate category requires approximately 10-20 double-spaced, typed pages, typically utilizing primary sources such as documents, statistical data, or interviews in original research written for a graduate course, seminar, or independent study. Graduate projects should demonstrate professional-level expertise and may include similar creative formats as the undergraduate category. All entries are judged anonymously and must be submitted in a professional manner with specific formatting guidelines. The paper or project submitted may be a revision of the original work completed for the course.
