About this opportunity
The University of St Andrews is pleased to offer a full scholarship funded by St Leonard's Postgraduate College to support an exceptional student undertaking doctoral research in the project 'From moving to meaning: Smarter tools for studying animal behaviour'. This scholarship supports doctoral research that develops AI-powered tools to analyze animal behavior by integrating pose detection with video and sound analysis. The research involves collaboration between the Schools of Computer Science and Psychology and Neuroscience, focusing on teaching computers to read pose, video, and sound together to determine behavior, reveal sensory inputs that drive action, and identify subtle signs of disease. The scholarship provides comprehensive support including full tuition fees and an annual stipend (£19,775 for 2026-2027) for up to 3.5 years full-time or 7.0 years part-time. Students will join St Andrews' vibrant postgraduate community and benefit from the University's research excellence, with over 88% of research rated as world-leading or internationally excellent.
