About this opportunity
The University of St Andrews is pleased to offer a full scholarship funded by St Leonard's Postgraduate College, to support an exceptional student undertaking doctoral research in the specific project 'Exporting the Nation: Making the Commonwealth, Re-making Men'. This research project investigates the powerful residual appeal of the British empire at the very point of its collapse, focusing on narratives imagining outbound Commonwealth migration during 1945-1965. The successful applicant will have considerable scope to determine the final focus of their research thesis, examining narratives across multiple media including historical fiction, development and extraction narratives, and cinematic attempts to refigure empire. The scholarship comprises a full tuition fee award and an annual stipend, with access to comprehensive research skills development through the University's GRADskills programme and support from St Leonard's Postgraduate College and the Careers Centre.
