About this opportunity
The University of St Andrews offers a full scholarship funded by St Leonard's Postgraduate College to support an exceptional student undertaking doctoral research on the project 'How to write a global success before print: The paradigmatic case of the Seven Sages of Rome/Sinbad narrative.' This interdisciplinary PhD project combines theories of translingualism and globalisation with premodern literature and digital humanities methods. It analyzes a unique dataset cataloguing approximately 600 known manuscripts and 300 print editions of the multilingual Seven Sages/Sindbad narrative to study how cultural artifacts achieved pancontinental success before the invention of print. The scholarship provides full tuition fees and an annual stipend for up to 3.5 years full-time or 7 years part-time. Students will be part of St Andrews' vibrant postgraduate community and have access to comprehensive research skills development through the GRADskills programme, with support from St Leonard's Postgraduate College and the Careers Centre.
