About this opportunity
The Yim Family Foundation PhD Top Up Scholarship is a postgraduate research scholarship established to provide financial assistance to support PhD students in Science studying in one or more of the areas: chemistry, mathematics, molecular bioscience or physics. This scholarship is valued at $5,000 per annum for full-time students and is awarded as a one-off payment tenable for 1 year. The scholarship is funded by The Yim Family Foundation Pty Ltd and is available to both domestic and international students enrolled in or holding an unconditional offer for a PhD within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.
Applicants must hold an honours degree (First Class or Second Class Upper) or a master's degree with a substantial research component in a relevant field. Additionally, applicants must be recipients of a primary scholarship from the University of Sydney that provides a stipend allowance. The successful applicant will be selected based on academic merit, area of study and/or research proposal, and a personal statement demonstrating financial need, with preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need.
The scholarship is awarded by the Dean, Faculty of Science on the nomination of the Associate Dean (Research Education). Recipients are required to provide an appreciation statement to be shared with the donor, addressing their research topic, how the scholarship will help in conducting their research, and their plans following their research. Previous awardees may reapply in subsequent years, though deferral of the scholarship is not permitted without prior permission.
