About this opportunity
The zur Hausen Scholarship was established in 2020 to honor Edith and Elmar zur Hausen, who emigrated from Germany to the United States in 1954 and fell in love with the Wenatchee Valley. Elmar worked as an engineer at Rock Island Dam while Edith worked as an accountant, and together they became orchardists managing cherry and apple orchards in East Wenatchee. This scholarship supports students pursuing degrees in engineering or agriculture, reflecting the zur Hausens' professional backgrounds and their passion for the valley's agricultural community. The scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors or previous graduates of Chelan or Douglas County High Schools who are pursuing engineering (of any kind) or agriculture at an accredited school in the USA. The scholarship funds are not issued until the student has been accepted into their program major and has earned enough credits to qualify as a Junior, requiring submission of an acceptance letter from their college.
