About this opportunity
The Betty M. Jeffery Award is granted to a student entering their third or fourth year of study at the University of Prince Edward Island who has expressed an interest in, and has the potential to pursue, graduate studies in the fields of Library and Information Sciences, Archival Studies, or History. This award recognizes students who demonstrate academic promise and commitment to advancing their education in these specific disciplines. The award was established by Betty Jeffery, a first-generation university student who benefitted from scholarship support during her undergraduate and graduate studies, receiving her B.A. in History from Acadia University and her M.L.S. from McGill University. Throughout her career as an academic librarian, including 17 years at UPEI, she was actively involved in scholarly endeavours and professional contributions. She was the first female and first librarian to serve as president of the UPEI Faculty Association, and the University conferred the title of Librarian Emerita on her in 2017. Understanding the importance of giving back to the community, Betty generously established this endowed fund to support UPEI students pursuing graduate studies in library and information sciences, archival studies, or history.
