About This Opportunity

The Deane Music Scholarship was established to support a talented Māori or Pasifika musician during their studies at Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington, who otherwise may not be able to attend university due to financial disadvantage. The scholarship is valued at $40,000 over three years and is designed to assist with accommodation costs, fees, and living stipends. Recipients must be enrolling in a full-time undergraduate degree programme at the New Zealand School of Music (NZSM) and maintain a B average GPA to retain the scholarship for the full tenure. The scholarship aims to remove financial barriers for talented indigenous musicians to pursue their passion and academic goals at the tertiary level. Payment follows a structured plan: $10,000 in the first year ($5,000 toward accommodation and $5,000 stipend); $15,000 in the second and third years ($5,000 toward fees, $5,000 toward accommodation and $5,000 stipend). Recipients are expected to demonstrate engagement and contribute to the community and environment of the New Zealand School of Music through participation in ensembles, presentations, or performances.
