About this opportunity
The NASA Postdoctoral Program offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific opportunity focuses on hydrologic application of remotely sensed precipitation at the Hydrological Sciences Laboratory at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. The Lab has expertise in ground and space based observation and modeling of soil moisture, snow, precipitation, and terrestrial water storage. The candidate should work with other members of the Lab towards the goal of developing a comprehensive and complete understanding of the global water cycle, by providing expertise in the measurement and analysis of precipitation at all scales. The ideal candidate will have educational experience in remote sensing of rainfall and/or snowfall, with interests that include evaluating numerous regional to global scale precipitation products, developing methods for spatial downscaling of data within numerical models of land surface hydrology processes, and potential applications of these products. The candidate could help participate in NASA's Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) satellite mission analysis and contribute to hydrologic applications of GPM data.
