About This Opportunity

The Flora T.T. Ng and Garry L. Rempel Doctoral Scholarship in Sustainable Development is awarded annually to a doctoral student registered full-time in the Department of Chemical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo. The scholarship is valued at $5,000 and is awarded on the basis of scholastic excellence (minimum 80% average) and studies that have an emphasis on research areas relating to energy and/or environment. Preference is given to students who hold an Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) or Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST) that requires a matching component. The goal is that this scholarship be given in conjunction with major external awards that require a matching component. For example, the funds available could be matched 2:1 by the OGS or QEII-GSST programs as long as these programs are in effect. If the match becomes unavailable or a suitable recipient cannot be found, the funds will be paid out as a regular graduate scholarship. This scholarship has been established by Professor Flora Ng and Professor Garry Rempel to support doctoral research in sustainable development, specifically in the areas of energy and environmental studies within chemical engineering. The award is paid over 3 academic terms and recipients are selected automatically by the Department of Chemical Engineering. Students do not need to apply directly for this scholarship as candidates are identified and selected by the department annually.
