About This Opportunity

The Gaia Power's Samit Sharma Scholarship for Graduate Engineering and Applied Science was established in 2021 to support a graduate student studying full-time in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. The scholarship was founded by Samit Sharma, a University of Regina alumnus who came to Canada from India in 1996 on a graduate engineering scholarship. After completing his studies and earning an MBA from Queen's University, he founded Gaia Power to develop renewable power projects operating in Saskatchewan. The scholarship aims to support graduate engineering students at the University of Regina working on research with important relevance to an engineering industry issue in Saskatchewan or Canada. The award is valued at $4,750 and seeks to foster closer collaboration between industry and academia research, increase student employability in relevant research areas, and achieve the social objective of service to Canadian society. Recipients must be enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science graduate program with a minimum GPA of 80%, registered in at least six credit hours, and already receiving graduate funding of at least $10,000 from research fellowships or teaching assistantships. Students must submit an outline of their research demonstrating its benefits and relevance to engineering industry issues in Saskatchewan or Canada. Preference is given to fully-qualified international students.
