About this opportunity
This Scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance to a PhD student who is undertaking research in climate change mitigation, specifically focused on the politics of extraction for a just energy transition. The scholarship is funded by The University of Sydney and a donation made by Elizabeth Richardson Caird in commemoration of her late father Mr G. S. Caird. The recipient will conduct research into governing the political economy of lithium mining in Australia for renewable energy, within the Sydney Environment Institute. The scholarship provides a stipend allowance of $35,900 per annum for up to 3.5 years, subject to satisfactory academic performance. Recipients must be full-time PhD students who hold an undergraduate degree in humanities and social sciences and an honours degree (first class or second class upper) or equivalent in a relevant discipline, and have demonstrated commitment to environmental issues.

Review process
Selection based on academic merit, a 1500 word research proposal, and an interview. Preference given to applicants with previous field work experience. Awarded on nomination of a selection committee consisting of Professor Susan Park or nominated delegate and at least two other staff members.
