About this opportunity
The HBCU-UP program provides awards to strengthen STEM undergraduate education and research at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The program supports innovative approaches for enhancing the preparation and success of HBCU undergraduate students so that they may participate successfully in graduate programs and careers in STEM disciplines. HBCU-UP offers support through five tracks: Targeted Infusion Projects for short-term goals to enhance undergraduate STEM education; Research on Broadening Participation in STEM projects that study underrepresented groups in STEM; Research Initiation Awards for STEM faculty to pursue research; Implementation Projects for comprehensive institutional efforts to increase students receiving undergraduate STEM degrees; and Broadening Participation Research Centers that conduct research on STEM education and broadening participation. The program aims to broaden participation in the nation's STEM workforce by supporting HBCUs, which play a critical role in educating African American STEM students.
