About this opportunity
The Jane C. Waldbaum Archaeological Field School Scholarships support students participating in archaeological fieldwork for the first time. These scholarships help cover expenses associated with participating in a field school project with a minimum duration of four weeks. Students majoring in archaeology or related fields are especially encouraged to apply. The scholarship program was established in 2007, honoring AIA Honorary President Jane Waldbaum. Additional related scholarships include the Laura Obolensky Scholarships (established 2023) specifically supporting field school projects in countries including Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Egypt, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan, as well as American School of Prehistoric Research Scholarships supporting field schools at eastern hemisphere sites occupied before the mid–first millennium BCE. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need. As part of the Archaeological Institute of America's commitment to fieldwork and families, reasonable line items for the care of dependent and elderly family members are allowable expenses.
