About This Opportunity

The Lucy Firth Equity Honours Scholarship provides financial assistance to students undertaking an Honours program in Philosophy in the School of Humanities at the University of Sydney who are experiencing financial hardship. The scholarship was established through a bequest from the estate of Miss Lucy Firth in 1997, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney. Eligible students must have an unconditional offer of admission or be currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Philosophy, Honours (Philosophy) pathway in the final year of the combined Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Advanced Studies, or Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Honours) in Philosophy. Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship based on criteria such as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander identity, low socio-economic status, carer responsibilities, long-term medical conditions or disability, sole-parent responsibilities, regional or remote disadvantage, refugee status, LGBTIQ+ identity, or being first in family. The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit, evidence of financial hardship, and a personal statement describing the applicant's financial hardship, its impact on their studies, and their commitment to comply with the formal requirements of their Honours degree program. Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout the tenure of the scholarship.
