About This Opportunity
The Mitchel-Common Prize was established in 1987 by Mr Mitchel and Dr Common, members of the academic staff of the Department of Geography from 1961-1987 and 1958-1987 respectively. This annual award recognizes exceptional academic achievement in Geography at Queen's University Belfast. The prize is awarded to the student in any faculty who, in the opinion of the Board of Examiners, has produced an especially meritorious performance during any year of study within the Department of Geography. The award provides £50 to one deserving student each year. This prize serves to honor the legacy of Mr Mitchel and Dr Common's long service to the Department of Geography and to encourage excellence in geographical studies. The award is open to undergraduate students of any nationality studying at Queen's University Belfast. While the financial amount is modest, the prize represents an important recognition of outstanding academic merit in Geography and is awarded based solely on academic performance as determined by the Board of Examiners.
