About This Opportunity

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific opportunity is with the Langley Aerosol Research Group (LARGE) in the Chemistry and Dynamics Branch of the Science Directorate at NASA's Langley Research Center. The group specializes in making in situ aerosol and cloud measurements and conducting research to improve understanding of atmospheric aerosols and their interactions with clouds. They also take part in model and remote sensor validation studies and conduct experiments to characterize aircraft emissions and their effects on air quality and climate. The group maintains a large suite of in situ sampling instruments and conducts airborne experiments and large-scale field missions on various NASA aircraft. Qualified applicants may participate in projects including the North Atlantic Aerosol and Marine Ecosystems Study (NAAMES), the Korean-U.S. Air Quality study (KORUS-AQ), and experiments investigating aircraft particle emissions and their relationships to contrail ice formation. Tasks include extensive laboratory tests and calibrations, installation and operation of instruments in mobile laboratories and on NASA aircraft, deployments to domestic and foreign locations, data reduction and archiving, and analysis and reporting of results.
