About This Opportunity

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific opportunity focuses on understanding basic processes which occur in solar and stellar flares through analyzing data, development of theory, and computational studies. The research seeks to understand mechanisms involved in the production and transfer of radiation in the flaring atmosphere, making use of data collected from ground- and space-based instruments. Current research projects include understanding how ion beams may heat the atmosphere during flares, studying how varying electron and ion beam parameters affects the radiation produced during flares, and investigating how white light is produced in flares. This position is located at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.
