About This Opportunity

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA's missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. This specific opportunity focuses on research at the Laser Remote Sensing Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, involving the development and application of airborne and spaceborne laser altimetry using the Land, Vegetation, and Ice Sensor (LVIS). The research involves assembling various air- and space-borne data sets and developing algorithms and models to analyze surface differences to understand the current state of the cryosphere, ecosphere, and hydrosphere and how they are changing over time. Example study sites include the Antarctic Peninsula, Pine Island Glacier, Rink Isbrae, southern Greenland, and Marie Byrd Land, with ecosystems and topographic studies possible across the U.S. This opportunity is closed to applicants who are Senior Fellows (5-years or more past PhD).
