About this opportunity

The NCPEI Scholarship for Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research and Applied Studies is granted to a student who identifies as Indigenous, normally lives off-reserve, and has applied to a minor in Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research and Applied Studies. Eligible candidates must submit an application demonstrating how they meet this criteria and respond to two questions through either an essay of no more than one page in length, or a digital recording of no more than 5 minutes in length: 1. Why is pursuing a minor in IKERAS important to you?, 2. How will this scholarship help you achieve your goals?. If more than one applicant submits responses which indicate equal merit, the scholarship will be granted to the student in the greatest financial need. The Native Council of PEI provides representation to all Status, non-Status, Inuit, and Metis peoples living off-reserve across ancestral Mi'kmaq territory on Epekwitk (PEI). This scholarship was created by a community resolution passed on November 6, 2022, with the intent of supporting Indigenous students to pursue post-secondary education in the new IKERAS Faculty at UPEI. This Faculty was created in response to a speech given by Native Council President & Chief, Lisa Cooper, that highlighted the need for UPEI to educate all students on the history and role of Indigenous peoples in Canada. The Native Council supports and applauds all initiatives towards achieving truth and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
