About this opportunity
The NCTE Donald H. Graves Award annually recognizes teachers in grades K-6 who demonstrate an understanding of student improvement in writing through the teaching of writing. Applicants submit a reflective essay of 1,500-2,000 words addressing their thoughts about writing and teaching writing, along with portfolios demonstrating significant improvements in children's texts. The award was established in 2001 by Donald H. Graves, professor emeritus at the University of New Hampshire and renowned educator, researcher, and author on writing. The award recipient receives a certificate and a $2,000 honorarium presented at the Elementary Section Get-Together during the NCTE Annual Convention. This prestigious award celebrates excellence in writing instruction and recognizes teachers who effectively support student growth as writers in elementary classrooms.
