About this opportunity
The Ora Frishberg Saloman Fund is named in honor of Ora Frishberg Saloman, known for her path-breaking scholarship and graduate teaching, notably research in nineteenth-century trans-Atlantic connections between European and American music criticism and reception history. The grant is given annually to one or more doctoral students at or PhD graduates of North American universities to conduct doctoral or post-doctoral musicological research oriented to music criticism and reception history. The fund supports travel and research expenses for projects that explore music criticism and reception history, continuing the scholarly legacy of Ora Frishberg Saloman's work on Beethoven's reception, music criticism in Paris, Boston, and New York, and trans-Atlantic musical connections. Preference will be given to applicants whose home institutions do not offer financial support for musicological research. Funds awarded must be applied to travel and research undertaken within a one-year period following the award announcement.
