About this opportunity

This scholarship supports students undertaking research in astronomy, space physics and exoplanet detection at the Faculty of Science, University of Sydney. The scholarship focuses on the TOLIMAN mission, a bold and ambitious project seeking to perform high precision astrometry using a 16U satellite in low Earth orbit. This mission employs novel optics that cleverly encodes the science signal, effectively mitigating systematic errors within the system. The project involves processing and analysis of on-sky data, utilizing cutting-edge tools developed for TOLIMAN and similar missions, including modelling the optical system of the telescope primarily in Python for image calibration and signal recovery. The scholarship has been developed to support an outstanding postgraduate research student to undertake research under the supervision of Professor Peter Tuthill.
