About this opportunity
The Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Better Outcomes for Inflammatory Arthritis supports an outstanding postgraduate research student at the Faculty of Medicine and Health within the University of Sydney to undertake research in Inflammatory Arthritis. The Centre of Research Excellence for Better Outcomes in Inflammatory Arthritis is seeking a candidate with a strong interest in rheumatology, personalised medicine and data analysis to commence a PhD. Analysis of data and/or biospecimens collected by the Australian Arthritis and Autoimmune Biobank Collaborative (A3BC) will form a key focus of the research proposal. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in rheumatology, clinical and/or lab-based research and a background or experience in statistical analysis of omics data. Broadly, this project will aim to generate new knowledge that leads to improved health outcomes for people with juvenile and/or adult inflammatory arthritis. Research questions may involve risk factor and genetic biomarker identification, exploring cardiovascular disease risks, identifying links between disease outcomes, diet, microbiome and other biomarkers, multi-omic biomarker identification for predicting response and remission, and a range of other questions related to clinical trials, qualitative research, epidemiology, bioinformatics, data-linkage, basic sciences and health economics. Multi-disciplinary, collaborative research will be encouraged, and supervision, training, support, and mentoring will be provided by the A3BC CRE network and partners. Numerous opportunities for training, collaboration and career development will be available.
