About this opportunity

This project grant from the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) supports research on crime, crime prevention, gender equality, and domestic violence. The grant provides individual researchers with the freedom to formulate their own research ideas, methods, and implementation within a defined timeframe. The research program on crime aims to contribute new knowledge about the causes and consequences of crime, as well as methods for preventing and combating crime. The 2025 call finances applications within two specific areas: (1) Gender equality and violence in close relationships, which may include studies of men's violence against women, violence in close relationships, sexualized violence and sexual harassment, honor-related violence and oppression, prostitution and human trafficking for sexual purposes, and gender aspects of crime development and the justice system; and (2) Crime prevention work, which may include studies or evaluations of initiatives from schools, healthcare and social services, police and prison services' crime prevention work, civil society and municipalities' roles in crime prevention, area-based crime prevention initiatives, and initiatives to prevent online fraud. Applications are welcome from all scientific areas as well as interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches. The research may cover local, national, and international contexts. Projects that receive funding will be part of a national research program on crime and coordinated by a scientific coordinator.

Review process

Applications are reviewed by an international review panel. At least three panel members individually review and grade each application. The entire panel meets at two meetings (spring and fall) to discuss and prioritize applications. Only applications with a reasonable chance of funding proceed to the fall meeting for more in-depth discussion.
