About This Opportunity

The Sally Weaver Graduate Scholarship is awarded in honor of Dr. Sally Weaver, the former chair of the University of Waterloo Anthropology department and an authority on Canadian First Nations. Dr. Weaver came to UWaterloo in 1966 and authored extensive work about Native peoples in North America, including Medicine and Politics among the Grand River Iroquois in 1972 and Making Canadian Indian Policy in 1981. This endowed scholarship is awarded annually to full-time University of Waterloo graduate students in the Department of Anthropology. The scholarship recognizes scholastic excellence and supports students' proposals for anthropological research. The value of the annual award is determined by the endowment interest each year. Selection is made by the Chair and Associate Chair of the Department of Anthropology after consultation with department members. Students are selected automatically by the Faculty/Department and do not need to apply separately. The award is available to both Canadian/permanent residents and international students pursuing Masters or Doctoral degrees in Anthropology.
