About this opportunity
One award, valued at $1,500, will be provided annually to a master's or doctoral student registered full time in the Department of History in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Waterloo. Selection will be based on academic achievement and a demonstrated interest in Indigenous histories. Interested students should submit a letter between 500 – 750 words demonstrating their interest in and engagement with Indigenous Studies by a deadline announced by the Department of History. The scholarship has been established by Francesca Patterson, with support from the Patterson Rozee Family Foundation, in memory of her father Dr. E Palmer Patterson II who taught in the History Department from 1964 to 1992. In 1972, Dr. Patterson wrote the first comprehensive academic history of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada. Students must maintain a minimum 80% cumulative average over the last two full-time academic years and be studying or researching topics related to the histories of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada. Selection is made by the Graduate Studies committee in the Department of History each Winter term.
