About This Opportunity

The Saskatchewan Youth from Care Bursary provides comprehensive financial support to students who were or are youth in care under the Child and Family Services Act of the Saskatchewan Ministry of Social Services or a First Nations Child and Family Services Agency (FNCFSA). The bursary covers full tuition and fees for the fall and winter terms, living costs based on Saskatchewan Student Aid allowable amounts for a single student living away from home, the cost of books and supplies for the enrolled program, and an additional $1,000 in the first year to support initial expenses related to beginning a post-secondary program. Eligible candidates must have received or be currently receiving youth in care services for at least 12 months between the ages of 13 and 21, and must have begun post-secondary education within 10 years of receiving services or exiting care. Students must be accepted into or continuing studies in a direct-entry college at the University of Saskatchewan for a first undergraduate degree. Up to 5 awards are available annually. Recipients must register in and complete at least 18 credit units of courses over the fall and winter terms combined, and must sign a release of information authorizing the university to confirm eligibility. Preference may be given to self-declared Aboriginal students. The award is based on academic achievement and is designed to provide comprehensive support for youth transitioning from care to higher education.
