About this opportunity
The Te Herenga Waka Māori Master's by Thesis Scholarship is intended to encourage and support Māori students to undertake a Master's by Thesis degree at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. The scholarship is available to Māori candidates who are eligible to enrol for a Master's by Thesis degree, specifically for programs in which the student will undertake a thesis worth 90 points or more. This includes one-year Master's programmes or Part 2 of a Master's degree with thesis courses typically coded 591, 592, or portfolio courses worth 90+ points coded 593.
Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, previous experience and knowledge, and the strategic importance and impact of the proposed research. For full-time students, the scholarship comprises a $15,000 tax-free stipend for one year plus tuition fees and levies (domestic fees for 120 points only). For part-time students, the scholarship is pro-rated and paid across two years. The stipend is paid in monthly installments, and fees are paid directly to the university.
Recipients are required to maintain enrollment and devote themselves to their thesis, with full-time students allowed to undertake paid employment for up to 600 hours per calendar year. The scholarship may be held in combination with other awards totaling up to $6,000, with approval required for larger amounts. Students must complete scheduled progress reports and maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout the tenure of the scholarship.
