About this opportunity
The Brian Dillon Memorial Prize is an annual award that commenced in academic year 2012/2013. It is awarded to the undergraduate student who obtains the highest mark in Criminal Law at his/her first attempt, provided he/she obtains the level of distinction (1H). The Prize consists of a printed scroll detailing the particulars of the award (including details of who Brian Dillon was and a short biography of the donor, Mr Paul Dillon from Australia), an engraved medal, and a cash prize. A sum of €250 is provided annually to cover the cost of the scroll and the engraved medal, with the balance remaining to be awarded to the student as a cash prize.
This Prize is administered annually by the School of Law, UCC, with Cork University Foundation securing the funds annually in support of the Prize. The award is funded from endowments made by Mr Paul Dillon from Australia to the University for awards to be made in perpetuity. The funds donated are invested, and the annual income is the amount available for the award. Due to fluctuation in the investment market, the amounts available from year to year may vary, upwards and downwards, therefore the value of the award is indicative only and may be higher or lower when the amount of the award is completed.
